24 April 1581–27 September 1660 – born in Pouy, Landes, Gascony, France, was a priest of the Catholic Church who became dedicated to serving the poor. He was renowned for his compassion, humility and generosity. The Society of Saint Vincent DePaul, a charitable organization dedicated to the service of the poor, was established in 1833 and is present in 132 countries.
