Saint Augustine, Bishop of Hippo

August 28, St. Augustine (November 13, 354 – August 28, 430), Bishop of Hippo Regius (present-day Annaba, Algeria). He was a Latin-speaking philosopher and theologian who lived in the Roman Africa Province. His writings were very influential in the development of Western Christianity. He is the patron saint of brewers, printers, theologians, and the alleviation of sore eyes.

Because St. Augustine is the patron of this community, the celebration of his day takes the place of the ordinary Sunday observance.
