Monday Housekeeping – Compline

Monday Housekeeping – Compline

Compline (pronounced: KOMP-lin) is the last office of the day and is followed by “The Great Silence.” We pray it at 8.30 P.M. and it lasts about 15 minutes. Included is a hymn, three Psalms, and the Nunc Dimittis – The Canticle of Simeon: “Lord, now let your servant go in peace…” Some of the traditional chant melodies at Compline are among the most lovely of any liturgies of the Church and make a fitting end to the day. With 5:10 A.M. Vigils on the morrow, it’s a wise choice to go directly to sleep after Compline! Our Facebook page and YouTube page offer a recording of part of Compline from the Paschal season.
