At the Oxford, Michigan, Public Library
Last night Br. Richard and Associate Daniel Susan presented a program about chant at the Oxford Public Library. Br. Richard sings in the Men’s Schola Cantorum at Immaculate Conception Church, Lapeer, where Daniel is the Director of Music. We sang various forms of chant, in English, Latin, and a little Greek, and demonstrated how Psalms are sung at St. Augustine’s. A handout offered those in attendance the opportunity to sing along with a few selections. The place of chant in the western musical tradition was explored as well as other ways of singing NOT in the Solemses tradition. The program seemed well-received. We may offer a few excerpts from it in the coming days; watch this space!
